Sunny Deol starrer 'Jaat' which released in cinemas on Thursday, has been doing a decent business at the box office. Of course, one cannot compare it to the business of Sunny's previous film 'Gadar 2'. However, on day 6 and day 7, the film has now begun to see a gradual drop at the box office.
Jaat Movie Review
'Jaat' holds up decent despite controversyOn Friday, the film found itself amidst controversy as an FIR was filed against the makers and the actors for the church scene in the movie which hurt religious sentiments. Yesterday was 'Good Friday' and a complainant said that this scene was purposely put in the film to hurt sentiments. The makers have now apologised and removed that scene from the film. Despite the controversy, the film remained decent in terms of its numbers on Friday. While on Monday, it made Rs 7.25 crore and benefitted from the Ambedkar Jayanti holiday in some parts, on Tuesday it made Rs 6 crore. On Wednesday, the numbers have further dipped as the film made only Rs 3.81 crore. On day 8, Thursday, the film made around 4.15 crore. Thus the week 1 collection of the movie ended up at Rs 61.65 crore. Meanwhile, on Friday which is day 9, the film made Rs 4.25 crore. Thus, the total collection now stands at 65.90 crore according to Sacnilk. The Saturday numbers now will matter a lot with 'Kesari 2' also releasing.
'Kesari 2' releasesAkshay Kumar's 'Kesari 2' has hit the screens on Friday, April 18 and on day 1, the movie has made Rs 7.5 crore which was expected out of a film of this niche genre. However, it is getting very good reviews and is expected to see growth over the weekend. Thus, both 'Jaat' and 'Kesari 2' did give tough competition to each other. Despite a new release in the form of this film, 'Jaat' made Rs 4.25 crore on day 8. However, this weekend will play a major role in deciding the fate of 'Kesari 2'. The film might pick up more in areas of Punjab and multiplexes in big cities. But it may see a growth over the coming weekend due to positive word of mouth. The momentum of 'Kesari 2' should continue over the weekend as well.
