
presenter Mike Brewer has revealed a popular hatchback is among his top picks for second-hand used cars under £10,000. The host of the restoration series said the Volkswagen Golf was among his best suggestions but urged road users to look for one thing before making a purchase.
He praised Golf owners for looking after their models with many keeping their car as a passion project. Because of this, he suggested a full-service history was vital and told motorists to walk away if important details were missing. The Golf is one of the most popular second-hand vehicles in the UK with thousands swapping hands every year.
, Mike said: "Also in my list how can we not have the Volkswagen Golf.
"For under £10,000 you will buy a decent Volkswagen Golf. The good news is Golf's are generally cared for by their previous owners.
"They are a car that is loved by new and they get loved by their owners. Nine times out of 10 you get a comprehensive service history.
"My recommendation would be if there isn't one then simply turn around and walk away as you will find plenty that have."
Previous analysis has put the VW Golf in the top five best-selling cars in the UK with 227,427 units believed to have been sold in 2024.
This puts the hatchback fourth on the list, just behind the leading Ford Fiesta, Vauxhall Corsa and Ford Focus.
