Freshly cut roses can certainly add a touch of elegance to any room, but it's disheartening when they begin to wilt prematurely. However, this doesn't mean they're beyond saving and can't be restored to their former splendour.
In a video shared on the Floristry Market TikTok page, florist Emma from Lily & Bee unveiled a simple trick to get those drooping roses standing tall again. The best part is, you won't need any chemicals or flower feed. Here's how you can breathe new life into your wilting flowers.
If your store-bought roses aren't maintaining their upright posture as long as you'd anticipated, wilting overnight, Emma's hack is incredibly straightforward. She explained that flowers can wilt overnight due to an airlock at the top of the stem.
Airlocks in flower stems hinder water absorption and result in wilting. These occur when air infiltrates the water-conducting vessels of the stem, especially after cutting, reports the Express.
This happens because the stem, upon being cut, creates a partial vacuum. When the cut end is exposed to air, atmospheric pressure forces air into the stem, forming the airlock.
So, to revive the roses, the airlock needs to be burst. To achieve this, Emma suggested boiling a kettle of water.
In a bowl or a bucket, pour roughly two and a half centimetres - or an inch - of boiling water. Submerge the roses into the water for about five to ten seconds.

Emma clarified that this will burst the airlock in the stem. Once the roses have been dipped in the boiling water, remove each flower from the water, lay them down and straighten the head.
Next, take a piece of brown paper or newspaper and roll the rose up, ensuring that the flower's head is perfectly straight. Use a bit of tape to secure the paper.
Then fill a bucket with cold water, place the roses in it and leave them for a few hours. Emma explained that after a few hours the roses should be rejuvenated.
She stated: "But you can't do that if you've gone away for the weekend or something like that, but if it's just overnight, that's what it is, they've got an airlock."
