has reportedly been presented with a potential exit strategy from following their loss in the final. The Red Devils are preparing for significant changes in the summer transfer window after failing to secure Champions League football next season due to their defeat against Tottenham - and their captain could be among those departing.
United have in the wake of their defeat in Bilbao. This drastic transfer approach includes Fernandes and other key players such as Casemiro, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Andre Onana, Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund, and Kobbie Mainoo.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is prepared to take a ruthless stance this summer to provide Ruben Amorim with a rejuvenated squad for the 2025/26 season. United aim to recruit Wolves forward Matheus Cunha and Ipswich striker Liam Delap, but only have approximately £100million to spend before considering sales.
Fernandes' contract with United runs until June 2027, with the club also having the option of an additional year. However, the 30-year-old conceded in the aftermath of the defeat in Bilbao that he would understand if United decided to sell him - and that has now become a distinct possibility.
report that Al-Hilal are keen on signing the Portugal international and their offer could be imminent due to the Club World Cup. The Saudi Arabian team are participating in the tournament, which commences in the United States next month, so they will be able to sign players from June 1.
Al-Hilal are stepping up their efforts to lure Bruno Fernandes away from Manchester United, having already attracted former Premier League stars Ruben Neves, Aleksandar Mitrovic, and Kalidou Koulibaly. Al-Hilal's president Fahad bin Nafel has already held talks with Fernandes' agent Miguel Ruben and lawyer Caetano Maria regarding a potential three-year deal.
Despite an initial rejection by his representatives, Al-Hilal remain persistent, and Fernandes' candid recent remarks suggest there might be room for negotiation.
"If the club thinks it's time to part ways because they want to do some cashing in or whatever, it is what it is. And football sometimes is like this," he said.
"I have always been honest. I've always said I will be here until the club says to me that it's time to go. I'm eager to do more, to be able to bring the club to the great days. In the day that the club thinks that I'm too much or it's time to part ways, football is like this, you never know it. But I've always said it and I keep my word in the same way."
Since joining United from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020 for £68million, Fernandes has been instrumental, contributing 98 goals and 86 assists in 289 appearances. He took over the captaincy from Maguire when Erik ten Hag came on board two summers ago.
He has been United's standout player this season, contributing 19 goals and 19 assists in 56 appearances. However, with United languishing in 16th place in the Premier League and facing a year without European football, Ratcliffe is prepared to orchestrate a ruthless clear-out this summer.
While loaned players Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony are the main targets for sales, there is a sense that the club may need to part ways with some key players as well. Amorim has previously lauded Fernandes as one of the world's best players and dismissed rumours about his future, but the decision could be out of his hands come summer.
