Luke Littler and Luke Humphries have backed the possibility of a Royal Rumble-style event on the oche. The darts stars were asked the question during a joint interview, and the sport's two top players were in favour of the idea.
For those unfamiliar with WWE, the Royal Rumble starts with two people in the ring, with surprise entrants joining the match in two-minute intervals. Given the electric atmosphere at darts events and fans' love for walk-on music, and agree that the idea could take off in their sport, but with an obvious twist.
WWE fan Littler suggested that the darts version of a Royal Rumble match would consist of quick-fire 501 legs. The winner of each leg would then face mystery opponents, revealed by their walk-on music, on a rolling basis until a champion could be crowned.
Asked the question during a game of 'Agree to Disagree', Littler and Humphries immediately voted strongly agree. "Have it!" Littler said as he joked about which player would return in the much-coveted final slot.
"I think it'd be good," Humphries told . "You probably couldn't rank it or anything because you'd have to make sure you're not taking too much away from the seriousness of the sport. But I think it would be a good laugh, a good bit of fun. I think the fans would love it as well."
On how he thought the format could work, Littler explained: "I don't think they could go above one leg, a 501. Straight away, one leg, the loser goes off and then the next player they'll do their walk on."

Littler is a well-known fan of professional wrestling, with his walk-on track of 'Greenlight' by Pitbull stemming from WrestleMania 33 in 2017. "Every WrestleMania has their own tune and Flo Rida sang it with LunchMoney Lewis, and I was there right up in the stands," Littler said.
Despite his love of sports entertainment, Littler disagreed that darts trophies should be replaced by championship belts. "I couldn't imagine getting a replica wrestling belt that said 'Darts World Champion' and putting it around my waist," Littler admitted. Humphries was on the same page as Littler, adding: "It's kind of fun, but for me it's all about trophies and they feel more prestigious."
The pair's immediate focus is on winning the Premier League Darts title tonight, as they are two of the four players competing in the play-offs at Finals Night. Reigning champion Littler faces Gerwyn Price in his semi-final, while Humphries will take on Nathan Aspinall.
However, they will soon be on the same side, having been selected to represent England at the upcoming World Cup of Darts next month. The duo were again in total agreement as they backed England to retain the World Cup trophy, following Humphries' triumph alongside Michael Smith last year.
"Didn't need a second to think about it," Humphries said. "Everything can happen in darts, it's tough, but the way me and Luke play, our rhythm. If we play to our potential, no offence to any of the opponents we play against, but I do think we'll be too good for them. If we play to our potential, I strongly agree that we will win the World Cup."
Ahead of making his World Cup debut, Littler is also aiming for glory. "We'll want to win it back-to-back, and obviously I want to get my hands on it," Littler said. "The pressure's going to be there, and we don't know what's going to happen. If we turn up on the day, we'll win, but if we lose, we lose."
