Sir David Jason's legendary portrayal of Del Boy in the hit BBC sitcom, Only Fools and Horses, has followed him since he landed the iconic role in 1981. Throughout the seven seasons it aired, the actor's catchphrase "This time next year, we'll be millionaires" became synonymous with his get-rich-quick schemes, even though they often failed.
Although the actor has also appeared on A Touch of Frost, Open All Hours, and The Darling Buds of May, fans regularly ask him to reprise the beloved salesman upon meeting him. While Jason usually turns down the requests, one fan detailed the moment the star gave in and put on a once-in-a-lifetime performance. Taking to Reddit, the fan shared: "My mate's dad was good friends with David and used to run a B&B in Weston-super-Mare. Over the years, 'Uncle David' would pop by now and then, and my mate would also see him at family gatherings and events."
They recalled: "As you can imagine, whenever he showed up, people couldn't resist asking him to 'do a bit of Del Boy.' He always politely declined, until one unforgettable occasion.
"After a bit of good-natured pestering, David finally gave in. My mate said he took a deep breath, and in that moment, everything about him changed-his posture, his expression, even the way he stood. It was like Del Boy had walked into the room."
The Redditor added: "For the next 20 minutes, Del Boy was the life of the party, giving everyone a performance they'd never forget."
This comes as longtime Only Fools and Horses fans learned earlier this month that they were reportedly being charged £550 to meet the actor at a convention, but are not allowed to take a selfie or ask for the star's autograph.
In October, Jason will appear in Milton Keynes alongside other stars at the Only Fools and Horses Appreciation Society Convention. Ahead of the event, it was revealed that tickets including a professionally taken photograph with Sir David in the Trotter Flat start at £350.
Platinum tickets will cost £550 and also give the ticket holder a signed mount for the snap, as well as dinner.
On the website, organisers have warned: "Due to time constraints, Sir David will not be signing any items across the convention weekend. We kindly ask you do not bring anything to attempt Sir David to sign as it will not be permitted. We will have staff on call to ensure this in fairness to everyone.
"There will be NO 'Selfies' with Sir David Jason. Selfies are left to the discretion of the other guest actors, although most are very happy to pose for a photograph if asked politely."
