Every contestant who appears on hopes to walk away with a hefty prize fund, but as we know, not everyone does. During the programme, hosted by since 2009, four players go head-to-head with one of the country's finest quizzers in the hopes of winning some cash.
If they make it through to the final chase, the remaining contestants must answer the most questions that they can in two minutes and pray that the chaser doesn't match their score.
But what happens to the players who don't make it that far? In most episodes, at least one contestant will miss the final chase because they failed to outrun the chaser.
In a brutal twist, contestants who are knocked out are forced to watch their fellow teammates from the sidelines, meaning they get a front row seat if they walk away with thousands of pounds.
A former contestant on the show revealed this on after being asked if eliminated players are allowed to watch the rest of the game.
One asked: "When you've been caught in the head-to-head part, does the show allow you to stick around so you can see your fellow team performing the final chase?"
The ex-player responded: "Yeah, you go sit with the crew and watch from the sidelines."
Pointing out the harsh reality of this, another said: "Tbh if I was the only one knocked out, I'd be pretty upset if the other three won big."
Another Reddit user suggested they need players to remain in the studio in case it turns into a Lazarus Team.
This refers to a team where all four players are knocked out in the head-to-head but one of them is brought back to compete alone against the chaser in the final chase, while the rest of the team watches.
If the player wins, each contestant walks away with £1,000 each.
The former contestant admitted they could've simply been brought back to the studio from the green room if that situation happened, writing: "I mean arguably they could just fetch us back from the green room if that were to happen but no, I was sat over by the adjudicator sort of off to the right of where the chaser sits."
The player, who took on Shaun Wallace when he competed, added: "Another bit of info, there's no audience. All the laughter etc is added in post production. They only have an audience for the celeb version. The music does play in the studio though."
