
At least 15 Belgian soldiers were injured during a shooting exercise taking place in Scotland on Monday, Belgium's Ministry of Defence announced. The country's Defence Minister, Theo Francken, took to social media to confirm the incident.
He said: "They were on an exercise and something went wrong. We do everything to train, train and protect our personnel as best we can, but sometimes things don't go as planned."
Three of the injured soldiers have been taken to hospital, with their condition unknown. According to , two of those hospitalised have serious injuries.
The country's defence ministry said in a statement: "They received first aid and were then transferred to a local hospital. In addition, a dozen soldiers suffered hearing damage.
"An investigation has been launched to find out the exact circumstances of the incident."
The incident took place during Exercise Red Condor, which is part of the operational preparation of the Belgian 3rd Parachute Battalion.
