They have been dating for less than a year, but Coronation Street's Carla Connor (played by Alison King) and Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) are very serious about each other. They just purchased a new home together. In scenes set to be broadcast on the ITV soap, it looks like Carla is ready to take the next step in the relationship, but sadly, her plans go awry.
The popular couple, known as "Swarla" by fans, are settling into life at number 6. Broadening their horizons, they attend a life drawing class together, but their evening is brought to an abrupt halt when Lisa's daughter Betsy (Sydney Martin) has a drama at the factory after printing the wrong logo on the vest tops she has been working on, which haven't gone to plan. That drama aside, Carla later confides in her nephew Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) that she intends to propose to Lisa, and he is thrilled for her.
To his surprise, she tells him she is waiting for an engagement ring, which is due in the post. However, before she has a chance to pop the question, her plans are thwarted when Lisa makes an announcement of her own.
Seeing Ryan and Carla whispering conspiratorially, she is curious as to what they are discussing. While Carla manages to throw her off the scent, there is another surprise in store.
Lisa shows Carla a jewellery website, but, rather than this being a roundabout way of proposing to herself, she reveals her plan to have a ring made for Betsy's 18th birthday, incorporating Becky's fingerprints.
A stunned Carla simply agrees that would be great, as her own plan to get down on one knee appears to have ruined the moment.
This apparent glitch will devastate fans who are desperate for the pair to make a formal commitment to each other. Many have been planning the proposal and wedding on their own on the social media platform X for months.
"Carla and Lisa should get married at the Chariot Square Hotel. It holds some sentimental #Swarla moments. And since Carla and Debbie are bestie rivals, she'll give them a good rate. #Corrie," one wrote.
Another predicted: "Soap weddings always have drama. The surprise guest being late for Swarla's wedding could be the drama. Lisa has organised the surprise. Michelle (Connor-played by Kym Marsh) is late due to flight delays. Lisa and Ryan try to buy time. Carla is getting nervous. Is Lisa having second thoughts? #corrie #swarla."
A third penned: "Just putting this out into the world again ahead of next week... Love deserves to be celebrated without caveats, disasters, surprises or compromises. Queer love shouldn't have to struggle to be seen. It should simply exist. #Corrie #Swarla."
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm.
