Chinese brand shares cheap EV that looks like a Land Rover with retro feature

A with UK origins has revealed a that looks a lot like an iconic at a fraction of the cost. Unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show, the MG Cyber X is a bold that looks rather similar to traditional off-roaders such as the and .

However, whilst the model was clearly inspired by luxury models that typically cost new car buyers around £75,000, the comparatively small size of the Cyber X means it is more likely to compete against models like the Kia EV3 and Skoda Elroq. Much like the , the Cyber X features a thin LED light bar that spans the entire width of the clean and relatively featureless front end, in addition to a light-up MG logo.

Whilst the Cyber X follows general trends for all-electric SUVs, one unique feature of the model is a set of pop-up headlights, which appear from the edges of the bonnet. The last production cars to come equipped with the feature were the Lotus Esprit and Chevrolet Corvette C5, both of which were axed in 2004 when most manufacturers were beginning to use brighter LED lights instead.

Despite its clean looks and small stature, the Cyber X has clearly been designed with off-roading in mind. Compared to other models in the company's range, the SUV has much chunkier tyres.

That said, the company has yet to share any performance details surrounding the Cyber X. However, the upcoming model will be based on MG's latest E3 platform that gives the brand more flexibility in which batteries can be installed.

As a result, it is likely that the technique, which is also used by the Stellantis-owned Chinese car brand Leapmotor, will help the MG Cyber X offer a practical range whilst also featuring an impressive amount of interior space.

In addition to their latest SUV, which is expected to be exported to Europe and Australia later in 2025, MG also shared more information on the GTS version of their Cyberster electric sportscar.

Compared to the standard variant, which features a soft top, the Cyberster GTS comes with a sleeker hardtop with a glass roof and a set of two small yet practical rear seats for occasional use.

The company has shared hopes that the MG Cyberster GTS could be ready to launch in time for the 60th anniversary of the original MGB GT in October 2025; however, prices are yet to be confirmed.
