Teacher suddenly dies in front of horrified school pupils after class

A has suddenly died two days after suffering a medical episode in front of her .

Adrian Gilmore, who worked at Albert G. Prodell Middle School in Shoreham, Long Island, , passed away on Thursday. The 48-year-old sixth-grade teacher, who was also a football coach Shoreham-Wading River High School, had suffered a medical emergency after school hours on Tuesday. Pupils had witnessed the incident.

The teacher, who was described as "a very nice girl", was taken to John T. Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson, but sadly, she died two days later. Officials haven't shared details of the incident or Ms Gilmore's cause of death.

Shoreham-Wading River Superintendent of Schools Gerard Poole confirmed Ms Gilmore's passing in a letter to the community, saying: "Adrian Gilmore was not only a dedicated and passionate educator, but an outstanding coach, mentor and source of inspiration to many generations of SWR colleagues, families and students."

"More than her impressive achievements, Adrian will be remembered as a mentor for other coaches and teachers, a passionate advocate for children and a trusted colleague whose impact reached far beyond school walls," he wrote.

According to a created in her memory, Ms Gilmore was a wife and a mum, who left her husband and children behind.

The page, which has so far raised over $153,400 (£115,225), said Ms Gilmore "passed away unexpectedly".

The fundraiser reads: "Our family has suffered an unimaginable loss. Adrian Gilmore, a beloved wife, mother, daughter and sister, friend, teacher and coach, passed away unexpectedly, and she leaves behind her husband Tim Gilmore and their precious children, who are now walking a difficult road.

"Adrian's life was a beautiful reflection - full of grace, strength, and a deep love for others. She poured her heart into everything she did, whether she was raising her children, nurturing her students, or guiding her athletes. Adrian wasn't just a teacher in the classroom or a coach on the field; she was a mentor, a listener, and a light in so many lives.

"She believed in people, lifted them up, and encouraged them to be their best. At home, she was the heart of her family; faithful, selfless, and strong. Her absence is deeply felt by all who knew and loved her."

It continues: "Now, her husband Tim is walking through an unimaginable season, doing his best to care for their family while grieving this profound loss.

"We are coming together to support him and the children with funeral expenses, daily needs, and time to heal - emotionally, spiritually, and financially.

"We believe in the power of community and the comfort that comes through Christ. If you are able to give, know that your gift will help ease this burden. If you're not able to give, please pray for Tim, Kayla, Cameron, Colby - for peace, strength, and moments of hope even in sorrow."

According to , Shoreham resident Bill Suesser said: "I feel sorry for her family. It's sad. The students will miss a good teacher." The Shoreham-Wading River School District is now offering grief support to students and staff after the teacher's death.
