Sexy Fish restaurant reopens after diner injured in bizarre art incident

An upscale restaurant frequented by celebs has issued a new statement after a guest was injured in a bizarre incident yesterday (September 18). Footage of the incident at the fancy Sexy Fish restaurant in Manchester went viral on social media, which revealed that a huge sea-themed piece of art had come crashing down onto the floor. During lunch, the art tumbled from a wall and smashed into the ground.

A TikTok clip revealed the artwork strewn across the ground and over several dining tables. The footage, captured from the street, displayed the sculpture smashed atop tables with fish-themed light fittings littering the floor.

A representative for Sexy Fish confirmed that the restaurant in Spinningfields - the city's financial district and home to a number of upmarket benues - was shut as a result of the incident. A spokesperson told the Manchester Evening News: "Yesterday, a piece of art fell off the wall at Sexy Fish Manchester.

"Our team responded immediately, and is in close contact with guests who were dining at the time. As this took place at the start of lunch service, the restaurant was quiet."

"We have carried out a full safety inspection with independent specialists, and the restaurant will reopen today for lunch. The safety and wellbeing of our customers and team remains our highest priority."

In an updated statement giving further details on the incident. including whether any guests dining at the time were impacted and details on measures taken ahead of reopening, a spokesperson said: "No emergency services were required.

"We are aware of one minor injury, which we believe to be a bruise, and remain in close contact with the guest. The restaurant was closed for the remainder of the day yesterday while a full safety inspection was carried out.

"All remaining artwork has been checked by third party specialists ahead of reopening today." The glamorous eatery took over the former Armani store in the city centre and was created by the same firm behind the Ivy Group.

The grand opening in 2023 was attended by a number of big names, including the likes of soap star Helen Flanagan and ex-England and Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard. The venue boasts Damien Hirst artworks and enormous sea sculptures, plus a mini waterfall and signature fish lamps.

The Hirst pieces include a swordfish mural fixed to one wall - which appears to be the piece of art that well to the floor - and a glittering blue octopus hanging above customers near the bar section. The chain's Mayfair branch also includes pieces by Hirst and has attracted A-listers over the years, with famous faces including Katy Perry, Noel Gallagher and Lindsay Lohan all photographed there previously.
