Despite his exit, Harmon remains connected to the NCIS world through his contributions to the prequel, NCIS Origins, where he lends his voice and makes an appearance in the inaugural episode.
Alongside his work on the latest NCIS offshoot, the 73-year-old actor has been occupied reprising his role in another popular franchise.
The family comedy Freaky Friday, which premiered alongside NCIS in 2003, featured Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as a mother and daughter who unexpectedly swap bodies.
Harmon took on the role of Ryan, the soon-to-be spouse of Curtis' character Tess Coleman, much to the dismay of Lohan's character, teenager Anna Coleman.
Now, Curtis, Lohan, and Harmon are all gearing up to reunite for the sequel, Freakier Friday, with Harmon returning as Ryan, now Anna's stepfather.
In this sequel, Anna is now a mother herself with a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they try to navigate their evolving family dynamics, all three, along with Tess, find themselves in yet another body-swapping predicament.

In an intimate chat with The Hollywood Reporter, Harmon opened up about his reunion with Curtis, saying: "It's comfortable with Jamie and always has been. I've known her since she was 15 or 16.
"Obviously, it's a different story now, and yet I enjoy time with her.
"When you look at the long form of life, you're talking about moments with people and sharing them and being with people you liked being with.
"That's always been true about her for me, so I was pleased to do that."
Freakier Friday is available to watch in cinemas.
