Liverpool built a new coffee bar inside the players’ entrance at their training ground last summer. The idea was for it to help the players’ socialise before training while grabbing a quick hit of caffeine or whatever tickled their fancy.
On most days when players pop in, they’re greeted by . Front and centre. Much like he has been on the pitch this season. His 33 goals so far this term are second only to the 44 he scored in his debut campaign at the club. He’s got four games left in the Premier League to add to his 28 in that competition and surpass his best of 32.

He seems to be a more creative player in Arne Slot’s team. Maybe it’s the chats over the coffee that help. It has been a remarkable season on the pitch for Salah. His 33rd birthday is in June.
Yet just three goals in his last 11 appearances of Jurgen Klopp’s time at the club had some questioning if Salah was slowing down. Maybe even Liverpool’s powerbrokers when they were considering the astonishing wages he earns. Which may be why contract talks were left until the final year, much to the chagrin of many supporters.
It was back in November when Salah sought out reporters in the mixed zone to speak about the discussions. A rarity given he gives written media the slip almost as well as he does full-backs.

Mixed messages in social media posts. Selfies with team-mates which were more read into by supporters than a PHD student delving into the topic of their dissertations. In the end, the tagline of his contract announcement was “more in than out”.
He sat on a throne in the middle of the Anfield pitch. The Egyptian King, after all. Yet he is now bonafide Liverpool royalty. They could never have let him walk after being an instrumental figure in winning their second league title in 35 years. Who else will be orchestrating the chats at the coffee bar after all?
