They then put the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, Pat McFadden, in the hot seat, as Martin pressed him on what measures the government is taking to support people struggling with their bills.
Later on, Susanna took the opportunity to laud Martin for his commendable work, reports .
"There is a win this morning for Martin Lewis and his journalism on this on , and also with the money and mental health policy institute," she said.
"Back in November last year, your charity published this report, 'Council tax collection practices are so aggressive, they'd make the banks blush.'
"Up to two million people with mental health problems are at risk of hideous harms because of the unique and aggressive ways that councils pursue council tax debt."
Following their discussion with Pat McFadden, Martin announced that the government had consented to review the "most vicious" aspects of the debt recovery process.
MPs are set to review the system that allows debt collectors to demand an annual payment within three weeks after a monthly payment is missed.
Martin continued: "What they should be doing is saying, 'Oh, you've missed a payment. How can we help you? Can we signpost you to debt support, and we'll give you three to six weeks, even if it were that quick, to pay the monthly, and then you can get back on track and everything carries on as normal.'"
Susanna then revealed that Pat McFadden would also be looking into how councils manage these debt collection practices.
"It's great to see this in action," she remarked.
"It's also good to hear that governments do listen, and that's really what it's all about, and it really helps. Well done to this programme and to you, Martin," commentator Andrew Pierce chimed in.
A thrilled Martin wrapped up: "We've been campaigning for a while on this, but then Good Morning Britain this morning highlighting it and giving it the publicity that it needs, I think is what got us over the edge.
"I'm very, very happy, I'll be honest with you. It's wonderful."
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 6am
