Love Island has been hit with a number of Ofcom complaints over a bitter bullying row. An Ofcom press officer has told the Mirror 56 complaints were received over "alleged bullying involvingToni and Shakira towards Emily" on the ITV dating show on June 20.
Shakira, 22, and Toni, 24, were accused by fans of 'ganging up' on Emily, 24, in 'uncomfortable' scenes in the Spanish villa. On Friday night, Toni accused Emily of being nosey, after their unexpected row earlier in the day. Toni was seen chatting to Meg saying: "I can't listen to her. 'Little Miss Sunshine' all the time." Elsewhere in the episode, Toni said: "Emily's just f**king nosey."
Emily and Toni's unexpected argument happened in the mist of Conor - who is currently coupled up with Emily - making a beeline for Megan, who is currently in a strong couple with Tommy. However, it wasn't the only blow for Emily, as Toni announced she was "irritating" her.
Later, things came to a head when Shakira got involved when she said to Emily: “I feel like in situations, it’s a case of reading the room a little bit…I feel like you’ve not made an effort with us."
The two went back and forth as Emily exclaimed: "Some people just want to cause a problem." Toni, insisting she couldn't care less about Emily's relationship with Conor, responded: "It has absolutely nothing to do with this, I don't give a f**k if you're with Conor."
However, when Shakira mentions Toni is having a bad day, Emily hit back, saying: "Just cause she’s in a bad mood doesn’t mean I can’t be in a good mood."
Agreeing to disagree, it looked like things were cooling off, however, when Shakira hears Emily telling the group about their conversation, the feud flares up again.
Pulling the Islander to one side, Shakira tells Emily she sometimes finds her "bitchy". However, after accusing her of repeating their so-called 'private conversations', Shakira seems shocked when Emily denies this is the truth.
Following the awkward exchange between the girls, some fans jumped on social media and accused Shakira and Toni of bullying Emily.
One wrote: ""What’s with the bullying in this villa????", while another said: "So uncomfy to watch. All the girls just bullying one another, it’s disgusting."
Meanwhile, a third mused: "What on earth is that argument about then with Shakira, Toni and Emily? It’s about nothing."
The Mirror has contacted ITV for comment.
