Beyond Paradise's Kris Marshall confirms 'well-loved character' returns in series four

Beyond Paradise's Kris Marshall has hinted at the comeback of a "well-loved" character in the new series.

The actor, who portrays detective inspector Humphrey Goodman in the Death In Paradisespin-off, is currently filming the fourth series and has shared some exciting news for fans of the BBC smash hit, reports the Express.

He was asked how the shoot was going during an appearance on Morning Live on Thursday (September 11), and responded: "Yeah, it's great, loads of great storylines, you know.

"We are welcoming back a very well-loved character from season one, so I can tell you that. We've been doing some scenes with him today. And there's a spoiler, massive spoiler, it's a he."

Despite the show being set in Devon, much of the filming actually takes place in Looe, Cornwall.

When asked about the best part of filming Beyond Paradise there, Marshall said: "I get to surf before work every morning. I go, even if there's no swell, I'm just getting the water every day. Yeah, swim in it, sail on it."

"Of course, I should add, the scripts are great, and I love coming to work and doing this wonderful job," he chuckled.

Actress Zahra Ahmadi, who plays Humphrey's deputy DS Esther Williams, described the show as a "joyous" experience to be involved in.

"It's an intense schedule, I'm not going to lie, and we all work long hours, cast and crew, but it's joyous, truly," she said.

The actress is on familiar ground, having been born in Devon with Cornish relatives.

"I'm a real mix in many ways," said Zahra.

"So I was born in Plymouth, I grew up in Plymouth, which is Devon, but it is right on the border with Cornwall. And actually, my mum and her side of the family are from Cornwall, they're Cornish."

She explained she doesn't enjoy correcting people on regional facts as "that's not my style", but added: "I'm open if anyone has any questions, and I can answer them, I'm always open to that."
