Arsenal have completed a deal for Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi, who becomes the club's biggest capture of the summer transfer window so far. The Gunners have paid Real Sociedad £55million for the sought-after midfielder's services.
Zubimendi flew to the UK last month to formalise his move and undergo a medical. It marks the second time in as many summers that the north London side have agreed a deal with Real Sociedad after signing Mikel Merino 12 months ago.
Spain international Zubimendi anticipated a long summer as he decided his future but Arsenal have managed to secure his signature in advance of pre-season. The Premier League runners-up were said to have made a breakthrough as early as January and have now finally sealed the deal.

It is understood the formalities of the transfer were completed in June, but Real Sociedad had requested for the deal to be completed in July so it could be included in their accounts for the 25/26 season.
Just 12 months ago, Zubimendi snubbed a switch to Premier League rivals Liverpool. The Reds agreed a deal with Real Sociedad and were willing to pay his release clause but saw the 26-year-old turn down a move at the last moment.
"I went on vacation, and it caught me by surprise," Zubimendi told El Diario Vasco. "It wasn’t something I had planned.
"I reacted when the situation arose. It was an uncomfortable time for me but I weighed the pros and cons and concluded that the best option was to stay.
“I don’t believe in 'once-in-a-lifetime' opportunities. If you’re good and want to achieve something, it will come to you. There’s no need to rush.
"I looked at my personal progression, who I am, and the club’s project. I stayed because I knew this season would be important for me in the team, and I still had steps to take. It wasn’t that hard of a decision. There were many reasons for my decision, but I was selfish and thought about what was best for me – and that was staying."
