In an extremely shocking incident, a frail elderly woman who was battling cancer was abandoned in Goregaon's Aarey Colony on early Saturday morning. The police received a disturbing tip-off that an elderly woman had been left to die amid a heap of garbage.
Immediately acting upon the tip-off received by the police control room, the cops rushed to the spot and discovered a frail woman, appearing to be in her late 60s or 70s, lying helplessly in a pink nightdress amidst rotting trash and plastic. Her face was marred by a festering wound—likely advanced skin cancer—her cheeks and nose visibly infected.
The cops rushed her to multiple hospitals like Jogeshwari Trauma Care and then to Cooper Hospital, but both initially refused to admit her citing lack of facilities. However, after almost 8 hours of insistence by police Cooper Hospital finally admitted her around 5:30 pm.
In a broken voice, she identified herself as Yashoda Gaikwad, who lived in Malad and revealed that her own grandson allegedly brought her to Aarey and left her there, reported Mid-day.com.
Hoping to trace her family, the cops visited her addresses in Malad and Kandivli, but no one could verify her identity. Mumbai Police has also circulated her photos across stations and are scanning nearby CCTV footage. However, as of now they have not got any leads and the investigation is underway.
