Bhopal: Wakankar Traced Boundaries Of Indus Valley Civilisation: Professor Sitaram Dubey

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Padma Shri Vishnu Shridhar Wakankar not only earned fame in the field of archaeology and painting but also worked to highlight the glorious reign of emperor Vikramaditya, said author and Padma Shri recipient professor Bhagwatilal Rajpurohit.

Rajpurohit was speaking at a lecture series organised by Dr Wakankar Shodh Sansthan and Directorate of Archeology, Archives and Museum, at the State Museum. 

He said Wakankar, scholar and astrologer Pandit Suryanarayan Vyas, Hindi poet Dr Shivmangal Singh Suman raised awareness about the contribution of king Vikramaditya through their works.

Professor Sitaram Dubey, a retired head of department, Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology Study School, Banaras Hindu University, spoke on, Changing paradigms of Indian history writing and its need for re-writing, (in the context of  Wakankar's contribution). “Every generation remembers the past and also finds solutions to the problems of the present from it,” he added.  

Dr Wakankar discovered the seal (stamp) of emperor Vikramaditya thus paving the way for more research. He helped to discover and carried out research of rock paintings of Bhimbetka. “Wakankar also traced the boundaries of Indus Valley Civilsation by following the flow of Saraswati River in Gujarat,” Dubey said.
