In a shocking case of alleged gangrape at a law college in Kolkata’s Kasba area, police arrested a college security guard as well along with all three main accused within 24 hours of the incident. The incident reportedly took place inside the college premises on Wednesday evening.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Monojit Mishra (31), Zaib Ahmed (19), and Pramit Mukhopadhyay (20), all of whom are former students or staff members of the college. In a fresh development, the college’s guard, Pinaki Banerjee (55), has also been arrested for his alleged involvement in the case, Kolkata Police said on Friday.

According to police sources, the alleged gangrape occurred between 7:30 pm and 10:50 pm on June 26 inside the law college building. Investigators said one of the accused is believed to have carried out the sexual assault, while the others aided the crime.

The victim’s family filed a formal complaint on Wednesday night, following which the police launched a swift operation. Two of the accused—Monojit and Zaib—were nabbed near Siddhartha Shankar Roy Sishu Udyan, close to Talbagan Crossing. Pramit was arrested later the same night from his residence. The police have also seized the mobile phones of all three accused.

Authorities have produced the accused before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (A.C.J.M.) of Alipore, South 24 Parganas, and have sought police custody for further investigation. The crime scene has been secured and a forensic team has examined the location.

Police officials stated that swift arrests and continued investigation are underway to ensure justice for the victim.
