Anshul Kamboj added to India's squad for the last two Tests against England: Report

Uncapped pacer Anshul Kamboj is set to join team India for the next two Test matches against England, TOI reported. The bowler has been added as an injury backup for left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh, who has a deep cut and stitches on his bowling hand.

Anshul has left for Manchester and will join the squad for the remaining two Test matches as a cover," a BCCI source told TOI.

Singh was injured while attempting to stop a shot from Sai Sudharsan during his follow-through in India's practice session on Thursday.

He was the frontrunner to make his debut in the fourth Test at Manchester if the team opted to rest a frontline pacer.

India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate had also hinted that the team combination for the Old Trafford Test now hinges on the severity of Arshdeep’s injury.

“We’ll take a call on the combination we play,” he said. “Particularly given the Arshdeep situation as well, we’ll make that call closer to Manchester,” he added.

The fourth Test between India and England will be played at Old Trafford in Manchester, starting July 23.

Kamboj might receive his Test cap with pacer Akash Deep doubtful for the next match, after limping off during the Lord's Test.

Kamboj was a part of the India A setup which played two three-day games last month. He took five wickets in the two games.

Last season, the pacer created history as he became only the third bowler after Bengal’s Premangsu Chatterjee (1956–57) and Rajasthan’s Pradeep Sundaram (1985–86) to take all ten wickets in an innings in the Ranji Trophy.

Kamboj came to prominence when he grabbed 17 wickets in ten games and helped Haryana lift the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2023.

On the back of that performance, he bagged an IPL contract with Mumbai Indians and played three games.

In IPL 2025, the Haryana seamer was part of the Chennai Super Kings. After warming the bench in the early part of the season, he picked up eight wickets in as many games with an economy rate of 8.00.
