Microsoft has released a new video teasing 'Windows 2030 Vision'. This is the first video in a series to be released in the coming days. It shows major changes to the Windows operating system over the next five years, particularly with a focus on artificial intelligence (AI) integration. The video features Microsoft's Corporate Vice President of Enterprise and Security, David Weston, who gives a glimpse of a new desktop user experience designed through Agentic AI so that it can work in place of users.

Windows 2030 Vision and AI integration

In the video, Weston says, "I believe that future versions of Windows and other Microsoft operating systems will interact in a multimodal way. The computer will be able to see what we see, it will be able to hear what we hear, and we will be able to get very advanced tasks done by talking to it." He says that traditional input methods like the mouse and keyboard will seem as strange as MS-DOS to Gen Z.

Although the details are limited right now, it is clear from Weston's words that in the future, AI will be deeply integrated into the operating system, allowing users to interact through natural language and multiple input modes, and AI will manage workflows and tasks.

Change towards making AI an operating system agent.

Earlier, Microsoft had also shared the vision that AI will operate inside, alongside, and outside apps. At Build 2023, Steven Bathiche had said that AI will be an active part of Windows, which will manage apps, files and tasks with voice and natural language input. This will be a big change from the existing AI tools, which are mostly standalone or embedded in apps, while the new AI will handle complex workflows like an agent at the OS level.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has also said that AI will completely change the operating system and user interface. At the 2023 Snapdragon Summit, he said that AI will 'fundamentally change what an operating system is, what a UI looks like, and how application interactions happen,' which clearly shows that the company is moving towards integrating AI more deeply into Windows.

The video shows that Microsoft intends to redefine the Windows user experience with advanced AI features by 2030, although specific features and timelines will be revealed in upcoming updates.
