Starting April 28, 2025, the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) has undergone a major digital revamp. According to the Ministry of Health, all old CGHS websites have been discontinued, and all services will now be provided through a new unified portal and mobile application. The aim is to enhance security, transparency, and user experience for millions of beneficiaries.
What Has Changed?-
PAN-Based Identification: Beneficiaries will now be identified via their PAN numbers, eliminating the need for repetitive document verification.
-
Direct Payment via Bharat Kosh: Contributions will now be made directly through the Bharat Kosh portal, reducing manual entries and refund-related delays.
-
Pre-Information Before Card Application: While applying for a CGHS card, users will now receive complete details about eligibility and payable contributions beforehand.
-
Fully Online Services: All processes, including card transfers and adding dependents, are now fully online — no need for physical visits.
-
Real-Time SMS and Email Updates: Application statuses will be communicated instantly through SMS and email alerts.
-
Enhanced Cyber Security: All users must reset their passwords when logging into the new system for the first time.
-
DDO and PAO Code-Based Department Verification: Employee records will now be verified using the DDO and PAO codes mentioned in their salary slips.
The old CGHS software had been operating since 2005 without major upgrades, making it outdated for current cybersecurity and IT standards. The new HMIS system will ensure faster, safer, and more transparent service delivery, offering a better experience to millions of government employees and pensioners.
