Ghaziabad: Two bike-borne assailants snatched a gold chain worth Rs 2 lakh off a woman's neck in the Kavi Nagar area on Wednesday afternoon. The woman had been on her way to work when the incident occurred.
Rashmi Chaudhary, a resident of Shastri Nagar in Kavi Nagar, told cops in her complaint that she took an auto-rickshaw from her home to her place of work, a beauty parlour in the area on Wednesday afternoon. She had just deboarded her auto around 2.20pm when two unidentified men approached her on a bike and snatched the chain, fleeing with it.
"In the rush, I couldn't note down the motorcycle's number," she said.
ACP (Kavi Nagar) Swatantra Singh said that an FIR was registered against the unknown accused under the section of 304 (2) (snatching) of BNS. A team was formed to investigate the matter, and cops are also checking the CCTV footage of the nearby areas, he added.
A senior police officer said that initial investigation suggests the snatchers had spotted the woman near her home and had been following her for some time. When the accused saw an opportunity after she left the auto-rickshaw, they snatched the valuables and fled, the officer said.
